The D Train

Rated R 100 minutes 2015

Actors Jack Black and James Marsden, following a screenplay by writer-directors Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, take the “bromance” sitcom concept all the way to its logical conclusion in this story of an ordinary, overlooked man (Black) and the lengths he will go to get his high-school hero (Marsden) to attend a class reunion. Imagine any standard “guy comedy” (the Hangover series, Pineapple Express, etc.) with added overtones of Chuck & Buck and Brokeback Mountain, equal parts meathead laff machine and maudlin morality play. Black and Marsden earn high marks for their roles in this one-of-a-kind movie, a true rarity in the field of mass-market entertainment. Kathryn Hahn costars as the Black character’s bewildered wife (98 min.).
