The Asylum Street Spankers

When: Fri., April 4, 8 & 10:30 p.m. 2008

As you might guess from their name, Asylum Street Spankers don't fit into any easily definable category. Nouveau Vaudeville, Americana, acoustic punk, psychedelic honky-tonk, and old-time music collide in a glorious train wreck of a sound highlighted by the free-form psychotic word salad of frontmanWammo and the heartbreaking vocal style of frontwoman Christina Marrs. The band plays acoustic instruments but the attack is pure rock 'n' roll with an energy that's so fierce you won't believe it even when you see it. The Asylum Street Spankers will bring their wildly uncontained show to town on Friday, April 4 at Café du Nord (2170 Market St., San Francisco). Shows at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., $25. CafeduNord.com
