The 69 Eyes

When: Mon., Oct. 5, 8:30 p.m. 2009

Back in Blood, the brand-new album by Helsinki-based 69 Eyes, is a slice of classic melodic metal with some heavy goth and horror-pop influences. Produced by Matt Hyde, known for his work with Slayer and Monster Magnet, the album does offer a significant upgrade to the genre: deep, sepulchral vocals -- a pleasant relief from the unfortunate dying cat shrieks metal fans are often subjected to. Having sold 100,000 albums, 69 Eyes seems poised to become a major presence stateside, just like it is in Europe. Horror fans will love the references to movies like Suspiria, and who doesn't love a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in eyeliner? At Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Monday, Oct. 5, with Dommin and the Becoming. 8:30 p.m., $17.
