Tham Poong

When: Mon., Jan. 28, 4 p.m. 2008

Having shifted her focus from bronze sculpture to painting, Vietnamese-bred ThamPoongfavors papyrus and likes to replace her human figures' faces with flower images. Whether marching or prone, meditative or purposeful, these figures intersect assertively with nature -- overlaid upon bands of blossom, leaf, and cloud that invoke the mountainous northern region where she grew up. On Monday, Jan. 28, meet the artist at a reception launching her exhibition in the sixth-floor conference room of theInstitute of East Asian Studies (2223 Fulton St., Berkeley). 4 p.m. IEAS.Berkeley.edu
