Tempo No Tempo

When: Fri., Dec. 7, 9 p.m. 2007

Knowing indie-rock patois -- a minefield of terms like "psychedelic pop" and "neo-paisley underground" -- may get you extra mileage at the Stork Club. But it's probably less important than showing respect for such sacred anachronisms as pageboy haircuts, the Beatles' Revolver album, and, uh, the tambourine. If such things pique your interest, check out the Stork's free showcase, which features Berkeley rock four-piece Tempo No Tempo and San Francisco twang outfit Battlehooch. Though they spawned from different traditions (Tempo NoTempo is what would happen if Elvis Costello were fronting the Bangles; Battlehooch is straight psychedelic noise), both groups have a retro sound that would please a modern hipster audience. They play with Wallpaper, a prepackaged R&B singer who has successfully infiltrated the indie-rock scene, during Friday's Art Murmur. 9 p.m.
