Make the climb or ride the elevator to Aurora’s upstairs roost known as Harry’s UpStage and get the lo-down from artist-activist Carlos Aguirre (AKA Infinite) and the freestyle rap collective, Bay Area Theatre Cypher. Hear from poets, beatboxers, hip-hop artists, and actors about what’s wrong, right, upside down, or twisted, and who’s dead, alive, or barely breathing under the floorboards, and what’s outlandish or especially outrageous in today’s world. Aguirre’s beatbox adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart sets the tone for each night’s original-material, one-hour, no-intermission performance. Poe’s short story/poem features murder, an unreliable narrator, unspecified mental illness and that inescapable heartbeat, thump-thump, underscoring the night’s relentless rhythm.
