Telegraph Avenue Holiday Street Fair

When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Dec. 24 2010

The joy of giving aside, holiday shopping can be a total pain. Crowds are insane, lines are long, and it's often hard to find anything that's not mass-produced and completely generic. But for 27 years and counting, Berkeley's Telegraph Street Fair has been taking the edge off by offering an alternative to the mall that's more relaxed, more local, and more arts-and-crafts-oriented - in short, more Berkeley. Call it "slow shopping." More than 200 vendors sell handmade clothing, jewelry, food, art, home décor, and much more along Telegraph Avenue between Bancroft Avenue and Dwight Way this weekend and next. Live music and other holiday-themed attractions help lighten the mood. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 18-19 and 23-24. 11 a .m.-6 p.m., free. TelegraphFair.co
