Tech N9ne

When: Tue., Oct. 14, 8:30 p.m. 2008

Kansas City rapper Tech N9ne may be from the old school (he favors brute, literal metaphors and songs that begin with the crackle of gunfire), but he's still one of the most prolific rappers in the game. A frequent touring act and prodigious minter of albums (he's averaged about one a year since 1999), Tech N9ne combines primordial Southern crunk with a noir-ish "mobb" production style and hair-trigger lyrics, so his albums sound as though they were crafted in a medieval era of hip-hop. His new double-disc album, Killer, is divided by theme (there's "the dark side" and "the sextion,") and features such older, well-respected rappers as Brother J, Ice Cube, and Scarface, along with a tarty cameo from Chicago emcee Shawna. Tech N9ne headlines at DNA Lounge (375 11th St., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Oct. 14, with Prozak, Skatterman & Snug Brim, Kutt Calhoun, KrizzKaliko, and Grave Plott. 7 p.m., $20, $25.
