Most gym-goers have a favorite post-workout meal. But from Saturday through Monday at the Bladium in Alameda, you’ll find soccer players seated at the outdoor picnic tables, chowing down on tacos, sopes, quesadillas, and giant tortas. The man behind the taco truck is Ramon Torres, a taquero from Mexico City with over 50 years of experience. Don’t miss the tacos al pastor, made on a vertical spit known as a trompo and served with pineapple, just how it’s done in Mexico City. But most memorable of all is the signature Torta Super Monilla, which combines pretty much any torta ingredient you can think of — roasted pork, ham, breaded and fried steak, hot dogs, panela cheese, American cheese, avocado, pineapple, lettuce, onions, tomato, and jalapeños — all atop a buttery bun toasted to a beautiful golden brown. Tortas like these keep us wanting more, and maybe even give us extra incentive to come back to the gym next weekend.
