Rated PG-13 89 minutes 2009

In Surrogates, most of the human population never leaves the home except via physically perfect surrogates that go out and live life for them. Sorta like World of Warcraft brought to life. Bruce Willis is the detective assigned to investigate the first homicide in years after a flesh-and-blood biker somehow murders a home-bound user through his surrogate. There are a lot of interesting questions that could have been generated by this premise, especially about the disconnection an avatar lifestyle breeds, but the filmmakers prefer to just tell you what their message is from the opening exposition. You’re not even required to think, which makes the movie as impersonal as the use of a surrogate (88 min.).
