.SunCal’s Alameda Point Project on February Ballot

A deeply divided Alameda City Council voted 3-2 last night to hold a special election in February for the controversial ballot initiative backed by developer SunCal for its planned massive housing project on Alameda Point. According to Alameda journalist Michele Ellson, councilmembers Lena Tam and Marie Gilmore voted against the February special election because it will cost the city $325,000 to run. But the three other councilmembers voted for it, after the city attorney noted that the city may have no legal choice but to hold the February election. Tam and Gilmore wanted to wait until June.
