When: Fri., July 19, 3:15 p.m. 2013
Any tour that bills itself as “THE MOST EXTREME TOUR OF THE YEAR” is guaranteed to be, at the very least, entertaining. That is, if your idea of entertainment includes watching a bunch of grown men growl and grunt and exert themselves in extreme physical ways in order to create ear-splitting sounds in a dark, musty venue while normal humans are outside absorbing sunlight and maintaining other important life functions. The tour in question, Summer Slaughter, brings together some of the top death metal acts every year; this year’s iteration will include The Dillinger Escape Plan, whose live show is the visual and aural equivalent of a heart attack; extreme instrumental noodlers Animals as Leaders; Meshuggah disciples Periphery; sensitive prog-metal band The Ocean; grindcore outfit Cattle Decapitation, and Sweden’s Aeon, which may be the most traditional (and intense) death metal band on the lineup. The day-long affair will test the limits of all involved. Doesn’t that sound fun? At The Regency Ballroom (1290 Sutter St., San Francisco).
