Stew & The Negro Problem

When: Thu., Oct. 28, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Having finally wrapped up five years of work on their musical Passing Strange (including a production at Berkeley Rep, a Broadway run, and a film collaboration with Spike Lee), musicians Mark Stewart and Heidi Rodewald have returned to their "real jobs" as Stew & The Negro Problem. On their last album,2002's Welcome Black, Stew and Heidi were making omnivorous pop music that melded 1960s songcraft (think Brian Wilson and Jimmy Webb), with rock, blues, psych, and soul sounds, and deft lyrics of social criticism and satire. Their long-awaited return to the Bay Area will happen Thursday, October 28 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (701 Mission Street, San Francisco). 7:30 p.m. $25. YBCA.org
