Stephen Kessler

Renowned for his translations of the works of Pablo Neruda and Julio Cortázar, Bay Area lit-scene veteran Stephen Kessler is also a poet in his own right. (Sample lines: "Full moon rising over the stockyards shines/a stinky light just east of the interstate/glazing the white roof of the Subaru.") He's also a contributing editor at Poetry Flash. Kessler's new book, Burning Daylight -- a collection of sixty jazz- and blues-informed poems -- is being launched with a book party on Sunday, Jan. 13 at Anna's Jazz Island (2129 Allston Way, Berkeley). 4 p.m.
