Steak (R)evolution

135 min. 2014

Lip-smacking documentary goes around the world searching for the finest beefsteak — France, USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Scotland, England, Sweden, Argentina, Brazil, and Japan — and brings us up to date on everything from cattle feed (grass, it’s sustainable) to what kind of wood should be used for the fire (how about Cabernet Sauvignon vines?). French filmmaker Franck Ribière and his sidekick, butcher Yves Marie le Bourdennec, clearly have fun petting bulls in fields and listening to farmers’ tales. Functions nicely as both a travelogue and a pop anthropology essay, as well as a tribute to grilling red meat. Written by Vérane Frédiani and Ribière (135 min.).
