Stand Up Guys

Rated R 95 minutes 2013

Fine cast, faulty screenplay, forgettable dialogue in the story of three over-the-hill hoods – Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, and Alan Arkin – having the night of their lives, maybe the last night of their lives, raising hell in some city someplace. It’s plain that director Fisher Stevens, who’s also an actor, greatly admires the three character actors, but it’s also easy to see that screenwriter Noah Haidle doesn’t give the three pros anything worthwhile to say or do. There have been about three million movies in which senior citizen redeem themselves. Stand Up Guys is one of the creakiest. Nice support work by Lucy Punch and Julianna Margulies (100 min.)
