Stag’s Lunchette is a meat-centric sandwich shop, but above all it’s a place where, according to chef-owner Alexeis Filipello, all of the meat is good meat: cruelty-free, hormone-free, antibiotic-free. Just about everything is brined/cured/dry-rubbed/smoked/etc. in-house, and for a place with a tiny kitchen, the restaurant’s ambitiousness is impressive. The sandwich menu changes at least once a week, so you can never be sure what will be in the current rotation, but — when available — the butter- and demi-glace-basted pastrami (with a kicky “piquant” dressing) and the tender, Mediterranean-inspired roasted lamb (with tahini and spicy roasted tomatoes) are both surefire winners. And don’t sleep on the breakfast menu: The perfectly constructed Baron’s Baking bagel platter and the super-fresh house-made ricotta are both spectacular.
