When: Thursdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Continues through Jan. 28 2018
With soft strokes of a brush and droplets of paint, Bay Area artist Annie Tull makes you feel as if you’re flying through space. On the surface, the oil paintings in her new solo show, Spectrum: The Art of Emotion, look like the outer reaches of the universe, but stare a little longer and their vivid pigments and hypnotizing depth reveal vulnerability, conjuring emotions such as love, fear, and envy. Each painting is layered with complexity, reflecting Tull’s overall desire to explore the “effloresence” — French for “flower out” — of complex emotions. Beginning on Dec. 15 at Oakland’s Naming Gallery, peer out into the universe and reflect into your own as well.
