Soulstice Swap

When: Sat., June 28, 3-10 p.m. 2008

Local art and music collective Homey Grown -- a loose-knit amalgam of storefront gallery owners, indie fashion designers, emcees, stylists, photographers, screen-printers, and music promoters -- characterizes itself with a feel-goody plant metaphor (i.e., "plant the seeds of our imagination ... nurture that creativity ... flourish in our artistic endeavors!"). Despite all the sloganeering, the organizers provide many opportunities for artists to network and cross-promote, though they're better known for hosting fresh community events like this Saturday, June 28's Soulstice Swap at Soundwave Studios (2200 Wood St., Oakland). For $5 and a bag of donated items (clean clothes, household appliances, nonperishable foods, music, or accessories), participants can trade their old apparel for something funky and new (albeit recycled). Beer, sangria, and snacks will be served, and Homeygrown artists will silkscreen anyone's threads "for hella cheap." 3-10 p.m. HomeyGrown.org
