The maxim that electronic music is the most innovative genre, explicitly committed to ushering imagined futures into the present, is quite relevant to PC Music. It’s like a label, in that the banner encompasses multiple artists, except it doesn’t really sell music so much as steadily upload new tracks, and the identities behind the roster remain sort of confusing. If it’s a label, the model is new and it probably suggests something about the music business’ future. PC Music’s founder creates music as A.G. Cook; QT is a moniker that crops up frequently; Sophie is an affiliate, and all three are set to perform at 1015 Folsom (1015 Folsom St., San Francisco) on Friday. QT and Sophie deal in glossy electronic pop with canned house flourishes and saccharine female vocals reminiscent of J-pop, while A.G. Cook incorporates more synthesized errors and corrupted software. PC Music artists’ imagery spins off of advertising and consumerism, while the music and operation underscore how identity is mediated and distorted online — which lends intrigue to the prospect of live performance.
