Slap Hitter: Marathon effort ends early for Lewy Boulet

The local marathoner Magdalena Lewy Boulet profiled here here a month ago wound up wrapping up her race way too early. A knee injury from earlier in the week cost her dearly. Oddly Lewy Boulet still made it further than the first place qualifier Deena Kastor who pulled up less than three miles into the race with a foot injury. Having had the opportunity to talk with the premier distance runner in the Bay before going to China, I believe her when she says that she isn't done yet. It's a long stretch of course between now and 2012 but if anybody has showed the grit to hang in there, it is the tearful athlete who only made it halfway to her goal yesterday morning. — Kibby Kleiman
