The lineup uncoiling on Monday at the Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco) features the sort of solo electronic acts most often found conjuring seething sounds from busted hardware transported by bicycle between Oakland warehouses with weird names. Aboveground for once, the local artist known as Cube opens this club gig for like-minded touring acts Skull Katalog and Timeghost. Across a substantial catalog, Cube’s output has moved from exploring the virtues of repetition toward a keen focus on tone and striking contrasts between the high and low end. Where earlier tracks sometimes felt like mere exercises, Cube’s latest cassette release, Her Instrument, functions fantastically as a full-length statement. Timeghost, an electronic project more inclined to noise than grooves, provides the main support for the headliner, Skull Katalog. Formerly known as Sewn Leather, Skull Katalog is a continuation of Griffin Pyn’s endeavor to stitch the roles of emcee and beat-maker into a punk chimera of the two.
