Sit Down and Read

Art and book aficionados will delight, comfortably seated, at this artists' book show at K Gallery.Curated by Kathy Walkup, Patricia Wakida, and Lucy Childs, it comprises 110 hand-made works of varying styles, including:

--Lynn Prathe'sObservations ("It's actually easier on the mind to be mindful.")

--Bonnie Thompson Norman's Jack and Jill ("Pasternak: A good heart is better than all the heads in the world.")

--Karen Hammer's Random Passions, Matissean line drawings of embracing couples on semitransparent vellum

--Deborah Kegan'sHip Hop at Fifteen, a positive and negative image flip-book

--Christine Rolik's hand-painted edit of Scientific Fundamental for the Beauty Specialists ("Fun for the skin and head.")

--Macy Chadwick's The Conversation ("Words come from my mouth and yours...volumes of overlapping shapes.").

Berkeley printer Peter Koch will discuss books as works of art on April 12. A show of English artists' books, Sitting Room, is also on view. Through April 27 at K Gallery (2513 Blanding St., Alameda) or 510-865-5060.
