Rated NR 96 minutes 2013

In the spirit of his 2007 rickshaw-driver drama Amal, filmmaker Richie Mehta revisits the lives of impoverished Indians caught in the snares of injustice, in this instance the frustrating tale of a New Delhi family whose twelve-year-old son has disappeared. The story has all the gut-level appeal of a timeless fable, as Siddharth’s father Mahendra (Rajesh Tailang) takes a leave from his business of repairing zippers to hunt high and low – mostly low – for his son, and encounters what we can lonely call cosmic indifference. While the screenplay – by director Mehta, actor Tailang, and story editor Maureen Dorey – deals wholesale in irony, the marvelous on-location camera drinks in the utter reality of street scenes in Delhi, Ludhiana, and Mumbai. A classically “small” film with limitless resonance (97 min.).
