Blues, Folk, & Country, All Ages

Shelby Lynne

When: Fri., April 23, 8:30 p.m. 2010

It's no surprise that Shelby Lynne finally bit the bullet and set up Everso Records to self-release her new project, Tears, Lies and Alibis. Always the proverbial square peg in the conservative, round hole of contemporary country music, the only question is why it took so long. Following the 2008 release of her Dusty Springfield tribute, Just a Little Lovin', her then-label Lost Highway passed on this latest collection of songs. What they missed out on was a collection of blue-eyed soul and honky-tonk that gets plenty personal and vulnerable. Lynne invests these songs with the kind of honest and frank perspective that enables her to insightfully equate the simplicity of an Airstream trailer and a Tiffany jewelry box amidst the complexity of today's technology-crazed world. For this particular tour, Lynne will be going the acoustic route and, as such, will be touching hearts and souls, along with opening acts Findlay Brown and Ann Atomic, at the Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco) on Friday, Apr. 23. 8:30 p.m., $22.
