SF Ethnic Dance Festival

When: Sat., June 30, 3 & 8 p.m. and Sun., July 1, 3 p.m. 2012

The diverse cultures of the East Bay do more than bring great food to the table; they also bring amazing dance to the stage. On Saturday and Sunday, June 30-July 1, East Bay troupes make up nearly half of the roster at the 34th annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, at the Novellus Theater at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (700 Howard St., San Francisco). Dance enthusiasts will fly in from across the country and around the world (naturally) to see our global-local companies: Oakland's DiamanoCoura West African Dance Company in a Liberian rite-of-passage dance, Richmond's GadungKasturi with an ethereal Balinese temple dance, and Ballet FolklórikoMexicano de Carlos Moreno in folk dances of Veracruz. The continent-hopping show includes five more companies from around the bay performing dances of Hawai'i, India, Japan, the Philippines, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Sat. 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sun. 3 p.m.; $18-$58. 415-978-2787 or

Price: $18-$58
