Watch out, because the Express is creeping up with another indie film fest, this time celebrating the darker side of cinema. In collaboration with the Oakland Underground Film Festival and Tourettes Without Regrets, we bring you SCREAM, our annual horror film festival held at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland). Along with a long lineup of haunting shorts — such as the aptly named Torturous and Blood Bath — the fest will include horror-inspired burlesque performed by the likes of Francine Dead and Grace Bones. Also performing are musical guests Sidney Sin and the Black Shaft, Zack Bateman & The Graveyards, and DJ Tanoa “Mr. Zombie Prom” Stewart. Emceeing the evening will be Tourettes Without Regrets hosts Jamie DeWolf and Spunky Brewster. Local celebrity judges will choose which film receives a $500 prize, and the audience gets to choose the big $1,000 winner. No eye-shutting allowed — come ready to be spooked until you shout.
Price: $10 - $12
