Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is back in Saw V even though he died two movies ago. The horror franchise is so staid now that the only way to create the illusion of vitality and a thin illusion it is is to pack its latest installment full of so many flashbacks that audiences will surely experience something like chronological dyslexia. Worse, the character of Detective Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) has been retrofitted into the previous movies timeline as a Jigsaw protégé, in order to explain his attempts to continue Jigsaws work of improving sinners via life-or-death choices. Our favorite 21st-century serial killer (sort of) really was the worlds worst life coach, and Saw V really is not surprisingly the worst Saw yet (88 min.).
