Saviours

When: Fri., July 11, 9 p.m. 2008

Perhaps it's a generational difference, but while music used to allure young people for symbolizing danger and rebellion, today, Disney Radio and celebrity do-gooders like the Jonas Brothers are destroying (or purifying, depending on your viewpoint) that connection. While the virginal Christian siblings roll through town this week, reconnect with rock music's rawer roots with a night of '70s-obsessed metal acts: Oakland's Saviours, Austin's the Roller (think blood-curdling screams, blasted bass lines, screeching feedback, and churning riffs), SF's Black Cobra, and Tarrakian (who have a slower, more melodic but still raunchy take on that decade). Then go see Hellboy II. At Annie's Social Club (917 Folsom St., San Francisco) on Friday, July 11. 9 p.m., $8. AnniesSocialClub.com
