The beautiful, tree-studded Strawberry Canyon in the Berkeley hills has gotten a reprieve, thanks to a federal judge. According to the Chron, US District Judge William Alsup issued an injunction earlier this week, temporarily blocking plans by the University of California to build a huge computer research center in the canyon. A grassroots group, Save Strawberry Canyon, which filed the lawsuit, wants the university to build the center elsewhere – possibly at its Richmond Field Station. The university already is rethinking its plans to build a giant biofuels lab in the canyon as well. Save Strawberry Canyon has sued to stop that proposal too.
