DJ & Dance

When: Thu., May 21, 8 p.m. 2009

Formerly known as the artist Santogold until she lost a trademark dispute to some loser in Chicago, vocalist Santi White, now Santigold, embodies pan-global electronic pop alongside fellow frequent flyer M.I.A. The 33-year-old Philly native and Wesleyan graduate was a savvy industry A&R rep and executive producer after college. In 2008, White's debut Santogold was expertly hyped and "leaked," and it dominated year-end Best Of lists with sassy, infectious bangers like "Creator" and "Shove It." Thanks to the right DJ guests like Diplo and Switch, the album cracked the Billboard 200 and achieved a rapid mainstream ubiquity on par with Moby in the Nineties. No small feat for a self-professed dub punk. Thursday, May 21, White storms the Warfield (982 Market St., San Francisco) with Amanda Black and Trouble Andrew. 8 p.m., $22.50.
