Theater

San Francisco Opera

When: June 26-July 2 2008

Attention is temporarily diverted across the bay this week, as some of the final performances of San Francisco Opera's star-studded productions of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (June 26 and 29, July 2), Handel's Ariodante(June 27 and July 1), and the first installment of the Zambello Ring(June 28) scream for attention. In Lucia, the great coloratura actress Natalie Dessay makes her belated SFO debut; in Ariodante, we delight in the greatness of Susan Graham and Ruth Ann Swenson (amongst others). Zambello'sDas Rheingold summons star power to a unique, American take on Wagner's sometimes trying mythology guaranteed to intrigue some and disappoint others. At the War Memorial Opera House (301 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco), on Thurdsday, June 26 through Wednesday, July 2. See web site for times. $20-$275. SFOpera.com or 415-864-3330.
