Boasting an itinerary that includes Balinese congdong, Haitian ceremonial rituals, Turkish wedding dances, and dozens more genres, the 32nd Annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival is your passport to a world of dance. The festival is hailed nationwide for its quality and variety, yet all 37 participating companies, who represent more than 20 nations and cultures, hail from the Bay Area and Northern California -- a testament to the richness of our diverse community. The EastBay contributes six performances, including Melissa Cruz' flamenco, Shabnam's belly dance, and OngDance'sThe Last Empress, a 2,000-year-old Korean court dance. Seven to eleven groups dance during each show at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre (3301 Lyon, San Francisco). All are likely to sell out, so advance tickets are recommended.
