Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Rated PG-13 111 minutes 2012

An oil sheik (Amr Waked) with an inordinate fondness for fly-fishing – he owns a castle in Scotland – hatches a dubious scheme to import ten thousand salmon from the UK to bone-dry Yemen, with the help of an investment consultant (Emily Blunt) and a British government fish expert (Ewan McGregor, actually playing a Scot, a rarity for him). The best thing about director Lasse Hallström’s overly sweet, arguably witty romantic comedy is the chemistry between Blunt and McGregor, and the best thing about that chemistry is writer Simon (Slumdog Millionaire) Beaufoy’s pithy dialogue. Kristin Scott Thomas also makes good use of her lines as a snippy bureaucrat. Don’t throw it back. (111 min.)
