Rock & Pop

When: Sat., Sept. 3, 9 p.m. 2011

Jennifer Herrema is cooler than you. Just accept it; the facts will never be on your side.  Let's review: The DC native co-founded her first band â€â€ the seminal, sorely missed noise-rock outfit Royal Trux â€â€ at the tender age of sixteen, before most people her age even knew what noise rock was (and long before it was considered normal for teenagers to be rock stars). It's basically been one big, insanely cool blur from there: Herreema helped found both the DragCity and Domino indie record labels, contributed to the Vice Guide to Sex Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll, and is rumored to be acquaintances with Keith Richards. She was the original Calvin Klein heroin-chic poster girl, for fuck's sake! Seriously: so much cooler than you. And with her new-ish musical project, RTX (once described, perfectly, by Pittsburgh City Paper as "like The Stooges covering MötleyCrüe"), Hereema channels all the whiskey-voiced, hard-rocking, hair-metal-but-so-much-better hipness that made Royal Trux so compelling -- though now, some twenty years later, it's only clearer that she's the original. Don't forget your leather jacket. At Thee Parkside (1600 17th St., San Francisco), on Saturday, Sept. 3, 9 p.m., $8.
