Roy Ayers is, following James Brown, probably the most sampled musician in all the world of hip-hop. The opening flush to his 1976 masterpiece, “Everybody Loves The Sunshine,” has made appearances in songs from The Beastie Boys to Mary J. Blige. Considered the godfather of the Jazz-Funk movement, Ayers is a master on vocals, vibraphone, and keyboard who has maintained the high-standards of jazz music even during the post-bop era. Over his illustrious career, spanning half a decade, Ayers has continued to be a relevant force by working with contemporary artists like Gang Starr’s Guru, Tyler The Creator, Erykah Badu, and even lending his voice as the DJ of Fusion FM on Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas. Roy Ayers is good vibes. Get Some.
