Rowing Championships

When: Sun., July 11, 7:30 a.m. 2010

The Lake Merritt Rowing Club hosts the Southwest Masters RegionalChampionships on Sunday, July 11, at the City Boat House (658 Bellevue Drive, Oakland). The competition involves a wide variety of sculls in a wide variety of races. Seventy separate categories represent different skill levels, crew sizes, and ages, with one heat featuring rowers over eighty years of age. There won't be any sleeping in, either: The first boats hit the water at 7:30 a.m. and churn things up until late in the afternoon. Competitors represent rowers from throughout the western United States, and the winners will be crowned regional champions. Spectators get to see races launched every six minutes, so if you can't find your own rooting interest right away, sit tight -- another boat will be by in no time at all. 7:30 a.m., free.
