DJ & Dance

When: Thu., Nov. 15, 10 p.m. 2012

Witch house, darkwave, goth rave -- it's easy to spot the DJs that make up this subgenre of dance music because they often have symbols next to their names and lo†5 of upper- and lowercase letters and numbers. Get past the gimmick and the music is a mix of chopped hip-hop beats, industrial bass, deep vocals, ambient noise, and Eighties synths. Thursday night party Future Perfect has been on the pulse of this emerging sound, previously booking headliners like Pictureplane and padding the rest of the lineup with locals like Oakland's Antwon and Chippy Nonstop, both of who apply these beats to their style of hipster hip-hop. On Thursday, Nov. 15, the party will host a rare appearance by Mexico City's Ritualz, supported by Oakland duo Finally Boys, goth party 120 Minutes resident DJ S4NtA_MU3rTE, and Loric of San Francisco band Water Borders, which is signed to London-based label Tri Angle Records, the arbiter of this scene. Break in the Doc Martens before you hit this dance party at Public Works (161 Erie St., San Francisco). 10 p.m., $10.
