Chez Panisse Damaged by Early Morning Fire

Chez Panisse was damaged by a fire early this morning, with witnesses calling 911 to report the initial blaze shortly after 3 a.m., as reported by Eater National.

It's too early to tell the extent of the damage, though Fire Department Battalion Chief Avery Webb told NBC Bay Area that it "didn't look too bad, there's not even that much smoke damage." Webb said it was too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.

Here's an early photo of the interior, from NBC's Christie Smith:

Needless to say, the restaurant is closed for now and will likely remain so for some time. We'll report back as we get more information. In the meantime, Eater National has a good compilation of the initial reports.

Correction: The original version of this post referred to an apparently erroneous report from that stated that "little fires" had been set around the building.
