Remote-Controlled Car Race

When: Sun., Sept. 8, 1-4 p.m. 2013

If you’re feeling the need for (low-level) speed, head to Moe’s Books (2476 Telegraph Ave., Berkeley) on Sunday afternoon for its second outdoor remote-controlled car race. The bookstore’s first race, held last month during “Sundays on Telegraph,” drew hundreds of people who ogled the fancy toys and cheered on the kids as they raced their cars and trucks around the track and popped wheelies. Boss Robot Hobby, Berkeley’s only remote-control specialty shop, and the after-school program Kids in Motion are the event sponsors and supply the cars — though serious racecar enthusiasts are welcome to bring their own. Only those age thirteen and under are allowed to race, but there’s no age limit for spectating and good-natured trash-talking.
