All Ages, Blues, Folk, & Country

Raul Malo/Shelby Lynne

When: Tue., March 10, 8 p.m. 2009

As the Mavericks wound down, vocalist Raul Malo revved up a solo career that's explored an eclectic mix of Cuban roots, country classics, supper club ballads, and swinging pop. His first album of original material in eight years, Lucky One, circles back to the genre-bending experiments of the Mavericks. Produced by the Blasters' Steve Berlin, Malo revisits country tones and Orbisonian crooning, and laces his songs with twangy electric guitar, Tex-Mex organ, Latin rhythms, and a three-piece horn section. Malo co-headlines with Shelby Lynne on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at the Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco). 8 p.m., $23.
