Pythia Dance Company

When: Sat., Sept. 10, 6:30 p.m. 2011

Sometimes a proscenium stage just won't cut it. The bay and the sunset sky frame the setting for Pythia Dance Company's latest creation, TenderSwitch part iv: Warrior the Sky. The company even transcends human performers -- dancing sculptures created by Magical Moonshine Theatre join five dancers, Ohlone/Chumash singer and artist Kanyon Sayers-Roods, and live music by composers Cheryl Leonard and Gregory Scharpen (there are rumors of a kelp orchestra and a sand piano) in a unique performance in and on the waters at Jack London Aquatic Center (115 Embarcadero, Oakland). Inspired by the decidedly earthbound realities faced by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Ohlone Tribe, the performances benefit the Indian Canyon Village reservation and Pythia's East Bay performing-arts programs. The opening-night reception includes a Q&A session with Ohlone Tribal Chieftain Ann Marie Sayers. 6:30 p.m., $10-$25. 510-842-3790 or
