Polyphonic Spree

When: Tue., April 3, 8 p.m. 2012

It's been four years since Polyphonic Spree last toured, but it's safe to say the chamber pop outfit is back with a vengeance, having mounted a several-months-long-tour that manages to keep adding new legs -- no small feat considering the main act alone is composed of more than twenty band members and untold instruments. So, yes, these guys would probably be worth seeing simply based on the sheer spectacle of it all, but theirs is also a type of music particularly well-suited to live shows, its multilayered sound somehow deepening and loosening in front of a live audience, blooming in a way it just can't when recorded. Catch them on Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco) -- assuming, that is they'll even all fit onstage. 8 p.m., $20.
