Point Richmond Fall Fest

When: Sat., Oct. 10, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. 2009

The end of summer can be a dismal time of year, lest you forget that it's also the season for hay rides, Burberry scarves, and jack-o-lanterns. Point Richmond celebrates the onset of fall this weekend with one of its biggest events of the year, the Point Richmond Fall Fest, featuring a pumpkin patch, chili cook-off, jugglers, face painting, a huge jumpy house, an edible community garden, and plenty of live entertainment. Bands range from Caribbean kids' entertainer Asheba to Claudia Russell & the Folk Unlimited Orchestra, to punk group Static Thought, who will close the day-long festival. Participants are invited to slake their thirst at a beer garden hosted by the new owners of Baltic Restaurant, which reopens this fall after a long hiatus. Point Richmond Fall Festhappens Saturday, Oct. 10, at Park Place & Washington Ave. in downtown Point Richmond. 10 a.m.-8 p.m., free. PointRichmond.com/FallFest
