When: Sun., Oct. 19, 5 p.m. 2008
Polish-Hungarian pianist PiotrAnderszewskiis one of the finest and most poetic artists of our age. Some may take issue with particular interpretations, but few would question the thought and musical integrity that motivate his choices. After all, you don't win the Leeds Piano Competition and Gilmore Artist Award, as well as a 2006 Classic FM Gramophone Award (for Szymanowski) and a Diapason d'Or and a Choc du Monde de la Musique in France (for Beethoven's Diabelli Variations) without having something great to offer. Sticking to core repertoire for his Cal Performances debut recital, Anderszewski will perform Mozart's Sonata and Fantasy in C minor and Bach's Partita No. 5 in G major and English Suite No. 6 in D minor. Note the unusual start time. At Hertz Hall(near Telegraph Ave. and Bancroft Way, UC Berkeley) on Sunday, Oct. 19. 5 p.m., $46. CalPerformances.org or 510-642-9988.
