Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra

When: Sat., Feb. 13, 8 p.m. and Sun., Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Our superb Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra wins my heart with its all-Brahms Valentine-themed program, An Elegant Romance. The star soloist, violinist ViktoriaMullova, moved back in time, as it were, from classical fiddling to baroque practice. Conducted by Nicholas McGegan, the concert presents Brahms' great Violin Concerto and Serenade No. 1, both in D major. For a pre-Valentine treat, don't miss soprano Jessica Rivera with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra on Thursday night. At the First Congregational Church (2345 Channing Way, Berkeley) on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. $25-$75, student rush $10. 415-392-4400 or Philharmonia.org
