Peter and Donna Thomas

When: Sun., May 20, 4 p.m. 2012

The easiest way to explain Peter and Donna Thomas' work is to say that they do with books something like what avant-garde chefs do with food: reimagine them, rearrange them, and strip them down to their most basic parts only to build them back up in new and heretofore-unimagined ways. Their miniature books are tiny little versions of pop song lyrics or John Muir quotes that fit in the palm of a hand, while their "uke books" look like and are made from ukuleles but fan out to reveal gorgeously illustrated stories. The Santa Cruz authors, who have also published several books on papermaking and book-binding, come to Mrs. Dalloway's (2904 College Ave., Berkeley) on Sunday, May 20, to discuss and sell their work. 4 p.m., free. 510-704-8222 or MrsDalloways.com
