Pete Yorn

When: Mon., Aug. 24, 9 p.m. 2009

He's been called the "poor man's Ryan Adams," but in truth, Pete Yorn has cut his own path with a sound that owes more to fellow New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen than to the alt-country Americanism that infuse so much of Adams' work. Over the course of three albums, Yorn has established himself as quite the solid alt-rocker, and has attracted collaborators ranging from Dave Grohl and Peter Buck to members of the Dixie Chicks. Currently working with actress Scarlett Johannson on the duo's forthcoming September release Relator, Yorn is still out in support of his recently released album, Back and Fourth. Recorded at the Omaha recording studios of Saddle Creek Records, the record is more melancholy than the usual folkie jangle that Yorn is best known for. Johannson's second favorite muse after Tom Waits will be sharing the gloom on Monday, Aug. 24, at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $28.50.
