At first, Perle Wine Bar in Montclair looks like your typical French-inspired wine bar. But look closer, and you’ll notice that Perle is a lot more laid back than you might think. Chef-owner Rob Lam, formerly of Butterfly in San Francisco, decided to offer a happy hour menu, prix fixe menu, and prime rib deal to make the restaurant a neighborhood destination. The happy hour menu offers great deals on the oyster shooters, smoked salmon toast, and fried oyster deviled eggs topped with trout roe. The deal even includes the French onion dip Angus burger, which is topped with caramelized onions, stretchy, gooey cheese, and served on a sweet, fluffy pain au lait bun. For best results, dip the burger in the accompanying French onion soup. There’s also a prix fixe three-course dinner menu available during the week, which is a decent deal depending on the items offered.
