The federal investigation of ex-state Senator Don Perata has moved to the US Attorney’s Office in Sacramento. The change came at the request of the FBI after the US Attorney in San Francisco declined to file charges against the Oakland Democrat. Perata’s defense team claims that the move violates an agreement it had with San Francisco prosecutors. But the acting US Attorney in Sacramento says there is no violation. Perata, who was termed out of the Senate in December, has been under investigation for corruption for more than five years.
